Hello rollinglenn,
I see that your MacBook stopped opening .DMG files after you updated to macOS Sierra. I can imagine it's concerning to have something not work like it did on a previous operating system. I'm happy to help assist you in finding the best resolution.
macOS should read these files and you should be able to open them fine with no issues, so I would suggest doing a fresh restart of your computer to see if that helps.
If you still have an issue after that, try a backup of your Mac's important data and a reinstall of macOS using the following articles:
Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac
How to reinstall macOS
Please let us know if this helps.
Have a great day!

Mac Won't Open Dmg File
It doesn't say anything at all. The icon shows up in the dock for a second and then fanishes. People from other discussions recommended to delete Users User Library Application Support Steam registry.vdf and open Steam again. If the Tinkertool.dmg opened (as well as its.gz file) but the Firefox.dmg didn't, it's unlikely the problem is with the Mac's system. If you haven't, trash the Firefox.dmg and download another one. Maybe it's corrupted. Maybe the permissions fix needs to be run (superstition). Otherwise, I'm out of ideas.
