New Mac Malware Found Hiding In A Fake Adobe Flash Update. Researchers found the MacDownloader malware hiding inside a fake Adobe Flash update installer. Run it, and midway through the bogus installation process you'll be alerted to the discovery of some nasty adware on your Mac. There's no adware, of course. It's just the next step in the scam. I got a similar notice this morning for 'adobeflashplayere2c7bSetup-5.dmg'. Like you, I am suspicious of this file. When I check my Flashplayer it says my version is up to date. When I download the current Adobe flash player installer from the Adobe website using Safari 6.0.1 under OSX 10.8.2, I end up with a file named 'installflashplayerosx.dmg.mdlp' in my downloads folder. I am curious as to why the.mdlp extension is being added to the disk image containing the flash player installer, which has always terminated.
Do the following to silently install Flash Player 11.3 on Mac OS:
Note: What follows is the only supported method to install Flash Player silently on Mac OS. Other methods, such as extracting and installing the .pkg file, are neither supported or recommended.
- Extract the Adobe Flash Player installer bundle (Install Adobe Flash Player.app) from the .DMG file.
- Open a terminal window and change to the directory where the .app file is saved.
For example, if the .app file is saved on the Desktop of the current user, type: cd ~/Desktop - Run the installer contained in the .app file using the following command:
sudo ./Install Adobe Flash Player.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Flash Player Install Manager -install - Type the password to proceed with the installation.
Note: It's necessary to be a super user to proceed with the installation.
